NEUCHATEL, (German: Neuenburg) political town of the canton of Neuchâtel, district of Neuchâtel. It includes Neuchâtel, the industrial and residential area of Serrières (Sarreres, 1270), the scattered hamlet of Chaumont (Chumont) and, since 1929, the old town of La Coudre (La Coudra, 1143).
The town of Neuchâtel is limited to the north by the shore of the lake, and from the west to the east by the towns of Auvernier, Peseux, Valangin, Fenin-Villars-Saules, Savagnier, Lignières, Le Landeron, Cornaux, Cressier, St Blaise and Hauterive. Its total area is of 1745 ha. 36% of it has buildings and the rest is mainly made of forests and meadows. It owns since 1512 the vast domain made of forests of the Joux (741ha), situated in the NW of Ponts-de-Martel.
The stone of Hauterive, so well used for the erection of buildings, houses or public buildings, gives an inestimable value to the city, in addition to coloring it. Discovering it, it is adopting it!
