To discover Neuchâtel in an original way is the ambition of the Millennium’s programming. The thousand years of the city will be studied with six different looks, jointly developed by the events (the Millennium’s productions and the associated programming) and by the Museum of Art and History exhibition in Neuchâtel. By linking the events and the subjects presented in this exhibition, the understanding will get rich and it will help raising public awareness of the importance of this historical milestone.
Look 1 : Identity - Neuchâtel, what’s that ?
It is a matter of interrogating the idea we have of the city of Neuchâtel, by asking the population of Neuchâtel what they think of themselves and in comparison with that, what others think of Neuchâtel.
Look 2 : Economy - Neuchâtel and the world
The economical growth led Neuchâtel to develop and open to the international world. Neuchâtel benefited from these trades and created a wealth that is still perceptible today.
Look 3 : Politics - Neuchâtel and Switzerland
First as a principality and then as the capital of a swiss canton, which also goes by its name, Neuchâtel plays a role as a confederate city.
Look 4 : Culture - Neuchâtel, the European !
Neuchâtel has always kept alive close relationships with Europe and its influences are important in social, political and cultural life.
Look 5 : Religion - Tolerance and religious harmony
The Reformation left its mark on the social and religious life and Neuchâtel became the centre for spreading the new faith in the french-speaking countries. After the establishment of the Reformation, the confessionnal coexistence between Protestants and Catholics progressively contributed to a better religious tolerance that we benefit from today.
Look 6 : Town Planning - City of Neuchâtel
This look is interested in the thousand-year-old urban development of the city. The witnesses of these changes are on one hand, the models of the history Galleries and on the other hand, the last arrangements like the TransEurope district. |
